Simoleons

Simoleons

  • This is the standard currency in game used to buy residential zones, factories, service buildings and just about everything you could think of
  • Ways to earn simoleons?
    • Upgrade Houses
    • Sell resources to the game (aka speech bubbles)
    • Trade (See trade section here)

Simbucks

Simbucks

  • This is the premium currency that is paid using real-world money.
  • You can also earn simbucks by completing achievements (view at the Mayor’s Mansion in-game)
  • Best ways to use simbucks?

(This is just MY subjective opinion. If you choose to purchase simbucks that is your choice. I do not mean offend anyone, just merely an attempt at humor)

  • Upgrading production queues (THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST USE OF YOUR SIMBUCKS)
    • Hands-down, save your bucks for adding slots to boost production
  • Add trade slots at your Trade Marketplace
    • ONLY do this if you are running out of open spots to place items for trade
  • Speed up things?
    • NO NO NO NO DO NOT DO THIS.
    • Just wait it out. Do something else like watch Attack on Titan on Netflix or catch up on Game of Thrones for SEASON 5 OMG SO HYPE SHIIIT.
  • Purchase Missing Items?
    • STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND DON’T CONTINUE.
    • Any missing items can be produced or bought with simoleons at the global trade HQ.
  • Buying buildings (parks)Just no. If you think about spending money on this game and you already upgraded production queues and also added trade slots (or don’t want to) This is in my opinion the next best option because its a permanent boost to population.
    • Thank you to Lucas for this suggestion.
    • But if you are playing for free you should focus on 1. and 2..
  • What about …?
    • If its not numbers 1 or 2 on this list… ITS NOT WORTH IT!

Golden KeysGolden Key

  • Golden keys are the currency used to build endgame population boosting buildings.
  • Earned from the Dock & Vu’s Disaster HQ
    1. Dock – Cargo shipments arrive at the Dock that require resources from factories and stores to fill orders.
      • Once  a cargo ship has arrived, you have 15 hours to complete the shipment
      • Once a cargo ship leaves, a new one arrives in 6 hours
      • There are 3 orders per ship
      • You are rewarded with varying amounts of simoleons per the order and 1 golden key
    2. Vu’s Disaster HQ – You can launch disasters that will destroy residential zones in your city (temporarily) to earn golden keys
      • Costs 60,000 simoleons to build and 12 hours to construct.
      • Requires batteries, gloves, and remote controls as materials
      • Buildings are rebuilt using resources and keys are given as rewards. Once destroyed, a building will not give any other reward other than keys and you cannot request new plans.
      • See the meteor/asteroid disaster in action here
  • For all endgame buildings that require keys, you must first purchase (using simoleons) the starting HQ/department building first.
    • Check out the detailed breakdown on costs, keys, etc. starting from here.
TIP
Plan ahead. When a cargo ship is scheduled to arrive you can see which item they are looking for. Orders generally require 2-5 of the item in question (More required for resources from factories than production from stores) so create these ahead of time
I recommend buying either education or gambling first. The education buildings (university) allows you to build the fusion reactor, so I would go with education first. Gambling has a high upfront cost for the HQ but it has a relatively low golden key cost to build its casinos.

Has anybody noticed that disaster challenges now only give one gold key per demolished building? It happened right around the time I crossed over the 1,000,000 population mark, but also right around the time that they redid the GTHQ.

I saw the same thing happen to me and I’m only at 420,000 population. Looks like they nerfed it.
